What are Dentures?
Dentures are a restorative treatment designed to fill in the gaps left by missing teeth. The goal with dentures is to bring back a complete, natural-looking smile while supporting essential functions like chewing and speaking.
Replacing missing teeth plays a crucial role in preserving oral health and maintaining facial structure. Dentures provide a reliable and comfortable solution that supports your overall well-being and enhances daily life.
Whether you're missing a single tooth, several teeth in a row, or need to replace an entire arch, we are here to help. At My Tsawwassen Dentist, we offer partial, full and implant-supported dentures tailored to your needs.
Types of Dentures
Whether you need dentures to replace a single missing tooth, a row of teeth, or a whole set, your dentist can help you choose the right option for you.
-
Full Dentures
Your dentist will fit you with full dentures, also known as complete dentures, if you have lost all your natural teeth.
These can be made for your upper and/or lower gums and are secured by suction or oral adhesive. You will remove full dentures for cleaning and while you sleep.
-
Partial Dentures
If you're missing one or more teeth, your dentist might suggest partial dentures. These can be a good choice whether you prefer a removable option or if the surrounding teeth aren't strong enough to support a dental bridge.
Partial dentures are made up of one or more artificial teeth held in place by fitting on/around your natural teeth. Like full dentures, these can also be easily removed for cleaning and while you sleep.
-
Implant-Supported Dentures
Implant-supported dentures closely mimic the appearance and feel of natural teeth, providing comfort and stability due to their secure fit. They are built to last and help preserve your ability to chew effectively.
Unlike standard full or partial dentures, some types of implant-supported dentures may only be removed by your dentist.
Why Dentures May Be Used
Losing some or all of your teeth can cause facial muscles to sag, making you look older. Dentures can help restore the fullness of your face and profile. They can be designed to closely resemble your natural teeth so that your appearance remains largely unchanged.
Filling gaps from missing teeth is important for your long-term oral health. When your dentist fits you for dentures, they also help prevent your remaining teeth from shifting, which could lead to more serious problems, such as gum disease. Dentures can also help make it easier to eat properly and speak well.
